Fourth Screen iPhone Apps

iPhone Screen FourWe’re almost halfway through my list of iPhone apps by screen. This screen is a combination of music apps, news apps, instant messaging apps, and a couple of helpful apps. Go ahead, continue reading.

TyroTuner (free) is an app used to tune a guitar. I haven’t had a chance to test it on my acoustic guitar but I have to say, this app has a gorgeous interface. I will place a post about this app when I get to try it out. Shazam (free) is really, really cool. If you’ve ever had a time where you heard a song but couldn’t remember the name of it or who sings it, this app is for you. More about this app in a separate post. Lyrical (free) is also really cool. You can search for lyrics and also this app will list the lyrics to the music playing on your iPod app. You don’t even have to open the iPod app. You can choose it from the ‘library’ within this app. It’s super cool! TuneWiki (free) is just like lyrical. You click on the menu and choose your song from the Media Library from ‘artists, albums, songs, playlist, etc.’ Last.fm (free) is just like the web site. You can now stream your last.fm music on your iPhone. Yahoo! (free) is just the mobile version of Yahoo. You can also personalize your settings for your pages. Y!Music (free) plays a variety of streaming music for free. It has a large variety of sources and genres to choose from. Y!Messenger (free) is the iPhone version of the Yahoo Messenger. I use it to talk to my friends from the Military in different countries. It also uses the ‘push’ notification when the app isn’t open. AIM (free) is the iPhone version of AIM. I use it to instant message friends who have AIM accounts. NYTimes (free) is the paper on iPhone. Since I live in New York, I like to know what is going on around me. You can save articals to read later or e-mail articles from within the app. NPR News (free) is NPR for iPhone. It also gives you options to hear NPR stations near you or listen to other stations. iDisk (free) is used to sync with my MobileMe account (which you can sign up for a free 60-day trial). YPmobile (free) is the Yellow Pages for iPhone. I use this if I need to look up a business while I’m away from my Mac. It has some neat features like bringing up the map inside the iPhones Map app, give you directions and you can make the call from within the app. There are other features inside but this will be a separate post. WhitePages (free) is similar to the Yellow Pages except it adds a residentual lookup along with a reverse phone number search and saves your searches. Cool Beans. Skype (free) is an app I use when my phone gets shut off. Luckily, I have wi-fi and can make free calls from it. You just can’t use on the road without the wi-fi. :-( It is also helpful when you are close to your cell minute limit. And finally, the last app is Waze (free) and I have only used this once. It did seem pretty accurate though. It is a little like GPS except the information you receive is based on community user input. Good idea though.

This concludes the list of apps for my fourth screen. As you have seen, I had many apps for music, searching apps, instant message apps, etc. I use some of them more frequently than others. It just depends on what I’m doing. Hope you enjoyed the story and thanks for reading!
