Second Screen iPhone Apps

Posted on 09 September 2009 by Tina Brunner

iPhone Screen TwoTo get started with my iPhone series, we will start with the second screen. I had already wrote about the first screen being the default iPhone apps in the first part of this series. Most of the apps on this screen are the ones that I use most frequently. It just made sense for me to have my most used apps as close to the first screen as possible. I don’t really use the search function very often, if at all. I only use the search function in my contacts and email. The following are the apps I have on this screen in order of appearance, left to right, top to bottom.

I use the Weather Channel (free) to obviously check the weather conditions. (I don’t like the weather app that came with the iPhone.) 1Password ($4.99) is used to keep track of all my password information, wallet information, credit card information, and many others. I also use this app on my Mac as well as in FireFox. It is extremely useful. I use the eBay app (free) for items that we are selling on eBay as well as to search for goodies. I use the PayPal (free) app to keep track of monies in our account. You can also send money from within the app as well. The USAA (free) app is used to track my bank account information. Also, if I am in an accident, my insurance is accessed through the app as well, since I have insurance through USAA. The CraigsReader (free) app is used for none other than CraigsList when I am away from my Mac and want to see if there are any cool deals out there. YouMail (free) is used to check our voicemail. It has really nifty VM message recordings you can choose from. You can check them out from my links below.  myWireless (free) is an ATT app that I use to check my bill, voice usage, data usage and you can pay the bill from within the app. iTV (free) is used to see what is on TV. You can do a lot more with this app but that will be in a separate story. Flixter (free) is an app that I use to see what is out in theaters. You can check the reviews, watch a trailer, see what is coming out on DVD, and much more. iRentMovie ($0.99) is used for checking my NetFlix account. I check to see what is in my Home Qeue, Instant Qeue, add movies, remove movies and more. Diggle (free) is used to see what is on Digg. instapaper (free) is used to see the saved web sites that I want to read later. ReadItLater (the free version) is an app I use more frequently than instapaper. It does the same thing, just better. my6sense (free) is an app that allows you to sync your RSS feeds and read from iPhone. It also has the ability to share via email, FaceBook, Twitter or FriendFeed. Regator (free) is a blog feed that displays a variety of blogs from all over the web. You can also share the information with others via email, FaceBook or Twitter.

This concludes the list of apps off my second screen. I only wrote short details about the apps. There will be detailed reviews of apps in a separate category.  That is all for now. I hope you enjoyed this blog.
