WARNING: Solitaire City for iPhone is Addicting!

Posted on 24 September 2009 by Tina Brunner

The iPhone app that I have chosen today is Solitaire City Deluxe. The reason I have chosen this app is because it happens to be an app that I’m addicted to. Particularly the Double Klondike game. My husband is extremely good at this game. I can’t even compare to his scores. So, let’s get started with the details of the game in general.
Solitaire City Deluxe is from Digital Smoke, LLC. It costs $7.99 from iTunes and they also offer a ‘Lite’ version for FREE. Solitaire City Deluxe has several variations of your favorite solitaire games. The following is a list of the games (and the variations will be in parenthesis). I will list them in order of appearance in the game itself.

No wonder why it’s such an addicting game. There are so many to choose from. Now let’s see what some of the features are that make this app such a great game.

  • You can play a game against the clock for points. The faster you win, the higher your points will be. Each game has its own rules, variations, and levels of difficulty.
  • There is global scoring for each type of game, which is automatically downloaded through your Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
  • The ability to see your name and country flag from anywhere in the world (your score of course has to be in the top 50).
  • There are separate hi-score tables for each game/rule combination. They are:

    • Daily Top 50 (which includes yesterday’s Top 50 above it)
    • Weekly Top 50 (which includes Last Weeks Top 10 above it)
    • All Time Great Top 50 (you can only view if you are on that list)
    • Personal Best Top 15
  • The app offers unlimited amount of Undo’s, which let you reverse any mistakes (careful though, this could dock you some points when playing in a scoring mode).
  • It also offers a ‘Show Move’ button which points out valid moves when you get stuck.
  • The app also includes a unique hands-on training system which teach you the rules of any unfamiliar games you may want to try.

  • The user interface is full of graphical effects like 3D cards, shadows, particle effects, and rewarding fireworks displays. (You can turn some of these features off through the settings also).
  • You can also choose to play in Landscape mode or Portrait mode. Just rotate your iPhone to switch the display. (You can adjust the settings to keep the game in Landscape mode in the settings.)
  • The app offers a choice of background images, card set designs, you can listen to your iPod library or talk on the phone (speakerphone) while playing, there are even settings for left or right handed players which can be set in the Settings.
There are probably some other features that I haven’t mentioned. If anybody has any suggestions or tips for Solitaire City Deluxe, PLEASE, comment so that others can benefit!
