Top Rated ‘Stylish’ Scripts For February

Written by on March 1, 2010 in Firefox Scripts - Comments Off

This is a list of the user scripts rated 3.0 by members of userstyles.org from February 1st to February 28th 2010. This list includes a short description of the script along with the link to the download. If the link doesn’t work, I apologize ahead of time. Sometimes these things happen. Just copy and paste if needed. You can also find more scripts at http://userstyles.org/.

Firefox Add-On Scripts

TotalToolbar: Right-hand menus open from the right

http://userstyles.org/styles/24969
If you use the TotalToolbar add-on (http://totaltoolbar.mozdev.org/), you might want to place some of the toolbar buttons on the right-hand side of the tabstrip. Unfortunately, most of their menus will likely open from the left-hand side and go off the edge of the window. This add-on tweaks the direction of most menus placed directly on the right side of the tabstrip so that they open from the right. In other words, they will open inward, much like Google Chrome’s menus.

Compact Menu 2 – nice icon (normal, hover, active)

http://userstyles.org/styles/24979
By default Compact Menu 2 (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4550) has kind of an unpleasant icon. As of Compact Menu 2 v. 3.1.x the add-on seems to support multiple icon by itself. But as I couldn’t figure out how to use this I think this style is more flexible.

Personas – Button border images on hover

http://userstyles.org/styles/25145
When using a Persona for Firefox (rather than a theme) on Windows XP, the buttons on toolbars will look… weird when you hover over them. Like, “opaque, blocky Windows Classic tan-colored” styled buttons.
I wanted to do a bit better than what my system and browser provided me.
This style script will give those buttons a glassy border image that still shows your awesome/pretty/super-cool Persona theme underneath.
Because I wrote/copy-pasted this in one go, there may be some issues. Help we weed them out by leaving comments.

Facebook

Facebook 2010 Tweaked v0.1

http://userstyles.org/styles/25037
Tweaked version of the new 2010 facebook style.
Features:
Floating topbar (floating like old facebook toolbar)
Chat transparency
Rounded edges on some objects.
This was just a quick mod, but i hope it is useful to someone.

Facebook: Chat bar displays on the left

http://userstyles.org/styles/25054
It moves the Facebook Chat bar over to the left side of the site.

Facebook – Sticky Top Nav Bar & Other Fixes

http://userstyles.org/styles/25094
This is a tweak that fixes basic usage problems of the new Facebook layout of Feb 2010.
It:

  • sticks the position of the top nav bar so it stays on the screen when you scroll,
  • sticks the position of the left column on the main page so it stays on the screen when you scroll
  • adds a log out button to the nav bar for easy access
  • blinks the new notifications icon to make it more obvious you have new notifications

also provides some other tweaks, such as rounding some of the corners in the top nav bar, drop shadows on menus, and a tiny bit of transparency on offline friend’s chat tabs.
I will update to fix if the basic functionality is broken by Facebook, and may also add other features.
Note that each feature is commented, so if you do not want a specific tweak, just comment it out or delete that section of the style!

about.com

about.com Confine Images

http://userstyles.org/styles/25148
In about.com forums it is possible to use CSS to make anchored elements, usually pictures, break out visually from the message box and have them overlay other parts of the page or even all of it. This can be used for all kinds of mischievous purposes, using the images as links to other places.
With this little script the CSS features allowing this get reset, so that the picture should stay confined to its message. It also restricts the size of the anchor to 500 x 500 pixels, so it doesn’t break the page layout anymore.
This does not remove any malicious links, so you still shouldn’t click the image. The script can be toggled on and off to check whether something is wrong, and guides and moderators at least are advised to keep it switched off until necessary, or else they might not notice what is going on on their forums.

Thanks dude, you’re a good man. Even though I am reposting this lovely style with my tweaks, without your express authority, I think the changes I did to it makes it even more cuter.
